Key Stage 3
- Web Development - students have the opportunity to plan and design complex websites using Adobe Dreamweaver, coding in HTML and CSS
- Machine Code Understanding - Constructing machine level programs in the Little Man Computer.
- Game Development - Students start using basic game development platform from Year 7, which introduces them to the basic concepts of Algorithms and Object orientated programming. This is then extended throughout Key Stage 3
- Spreadsheet Modelling - Students work with complex formulas, functions and concepts to produce spreadsheet models for different scenarios
- E-Safety - Students will revisit this topic every year as we feel it is the most important. Students work towards creating end products to help them be aware of dangers when dealing with electronic information, and learn how to take precautions to keep themselves safe.
- Data Handling - Students produce complex databases, and learn how to query and present relevant information
- Computer Programming - Students learn a wide range of programming techniques (creating functions/declaring variables etc) in a wide variety of languages. These include: Java Script, Action Script, Python, HTML, CSS and Pascal. In the future this will lead to application development using programs such as: Xcode and App Inventor
- Image Manipulation - Students learn how to manipulate images by learning about image concepts such as: filters, size, resolution and graphics types
- Video Editing - Students will use a range of video editing techniques using Adobe Premiere and Windows Movie Maker
- Sound Editing - Students will have an opportunity to learn about different types of images and how to manipulate these using programs such as Audacity
- Animation - Students learn how to produce animation in programs such as Adobe Flash with the use of different features such as: key frame, motion and shape tweening. Students will also have the opportunity to enter national competitions
- Hardware: Students get the opportunity to understand the hardware components in a Computer and build Computer Systems.

(This course will replace the ICT course in September 2017, once the first cohort of GCSE Computer Science students graduate from KS4)
- Computer Club for Girls (CC4G) - This club has proved to be popular since introduced. This club gives girls the opportunity to become involved in Science and Engineering concepts, enhancing their prospects for the future
- Console Gaming - A little fun for all the year groups, students have the opportunity to compete against one another and also discover the features behind complex computer games
- Year 7 Club - This club helps new students into the school find new friends, socialise and generally take part in computing activities
- KS4/5 Homework Support Club - A support club for any students for Homework/Coursework
We are also always open to suggestions from students for clubs they want to see running.
Access to Work:
All students have access to work via our virtual learning environment and Microsoft Office 365. These facilities provide them with cloud storage of 1Tb, access to all Office applications for use at home and an email address
Licensed: Adobe CS3 Suite (Photoshop, Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver) / Microsoft Office Suite 2013/(365) which is available for both school and home for all students
Open Sourced: Google Documents, Python IDE, Scratch, Notepad ++, Open Office, Build your own blocks, Audacity, Windows Movie Maker and many more. These give our students opportunities to work from home without having to purchase licensed software.
The department has been involved in providing various opportunities for students to get involved in careers which involve ICT/Computing. We have run trips to Bletchley Park, Guildford University, Disney Land Paris, Big Hitters in London, and are always looking for further locations to help encourage students in our field. We have entered competitions which have led to being invited to the Young Gamers BAFTA awards, and Teen Tech Engineering conference run by Maggie Philbin.
