Promoting British Values

(Ref DfE Promoting fundamental British values as part of SMSC in schools)

At Chesham Grammar School fundamental British values are promoted as part of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our students.  The key values are:

  • Democracy
  • Rule of Law
  • Individual Liberty
  • Tolerance

Students are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance.  They understand that all UK citizens are subject to British law and are aware of their democratic rights and responsibilities.   In response to the Prevent Agenda, this is done with sensitivity and care.

To reflect the SMSC policy and practice, all subjects take part in a whole school audit to ensure that departments are contributing to this aspect of the curriculum.  This is monitored by the Curriculum Deputy in order to be able to inform governors.
