Head's Blog

As you know, today is a staff training day and so the school is eerily quiet. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday. With a training day today and some year groups remaining at home on Wednesday, it has been an usual week for a good number of students. Next week is the last before the half term break. A reminder that we finish next Friday, 10th, returning to school on Monday 20th. This half term has absolutely flown by!

School visits

At 6.45am this morning, 39 GCSE Spanish students and 4 staff set off for Gatwick Airport and as I write this at breaktime, they will (hopefully) be in the air, heading for Madrid. They will be there until Sunday evening, visiting places of interest and taking the opportunity to hone their Spanish speaking skills. As always, huge thanks to staff for organising this and for giving up their weekend to accompany the students.

Next week, we have another school visit taking place, to Berlin for those in Year 13 studying A level history. Half of the course involves the study of Germany from 1918-1945 so they will be visiting key sites in the city which are associated with this time period. We wish both parties an enjoyable and memorable visit. I was reading an article yesterday which reported that almost half of parents with school-age children say that school trips are their most cherished memories from their own school days. I have no doubt that this will be the case of our own students if and when they become parents themselves.

FoCGS

A reminder that the FoCGS are holding a Zoom meeting on Tuesday evening at 8pm. A flyer is attached. In order to continue to raise much-needed funds for the school which benefit every child, we need parents to get involved. Please join the meeting if you can, to share ideas and if you are unable to make it and would like to email with ideas and/or offers of help, please contact friends@cheshamgrammar.org.  Thank you to parents who dropped off bags for the FoCGS Bag2School collection yesterday.

Well done

Very well done to Rose in Year 8 who won four gold medals and a silver at the Berks and South Bucks County Swimming Championships recently.

Birthday teas

Happy 12th birthday to Charlotte, Chloe and Surya in Year 7 with whom I met for birthday tea this week.

Sport this week

We have had a number of fixtures this week. The Year 8 boys beat Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School in football while the Year 9s beat The Misbourne in basketball. In netball, there were games for teams in years 11, 10 and 7 with the students enjoying the matches v DCHS and Burnham Grammar School but losing out to a stronger team on the day. The PE extracurricular and fixtures schedule for the last week of this half term is attached via the Sports/Clubs tab option.

HPV Vaccinations

If you have a child in Year 9, please see the attached letter about HPV vaccinations from the Bucks Immunisation Team.

With best wishes for a relaxing weekend.
