CGS Girls Get Set

For a number of years, the Science Department at CGS have been involved in the Girls Get Set Programme, which aims to address the imbalance between the number of men and women who currently work in STEM careers. A 2024 report by UCL noted that still only 30% of the UK STEM workforce are women. We are very proud that we have approximately the same number of entries for boys and girls across the sciences at Alevel at CGS!

Following the February half-term, the Science Department took 17 Year 8 girls to GE Healthcare HQ as part of the Girls Get Set STEM programme. Students were tasked to research, innovate and design prototypes for ways to support those living with dementia. Our students worked in small teams and presented their innovative ideas to a panel of judges. One of our teams was awarded first place for the outstanding presentation of their research, designs, prototypes made, their ability to respond to panel questions and their inclusion of a brand identity and slogan to go with the proposed product. Thank you to Mr Haneef and Mrs Wilson for accompanying the students and a huge ‘well done’ to the students who took part in the day and represented Chesham Grammar School so well!
