The Friends of Chesham Grammar School

About The Friends (Reg charity: No 295740)

We’re here to connect the home and school family, uniting pupils, parents and carers, staff and friends in the common goal of meeting others, having fun and fundraising through social events and activities. Money we raise has been used to improve facilities and the educational experience for our children

In recent years our fundraising has contributed towards new toilets, new changing rooms, an outdoor café and covered courtyard area, school learning equipment including ipads, laptops, equipment for Tech classrooms and musical keyboards, as well as a new art gallery and Food Tech classroom opened by none other than Mary Berry!

Fundraising Totals

Typically, the FOCGS raises around £40k a year but in 2019/20 the totals were obviously lower due to the pandemic but we still raised an impressive £31k which is broken down as follows:

  • ShopSmart – £9,400
  • Pre-Covid Events (Quiz, Wine Tasting, Comedy Night, Disco) - £15,600
  • Online Raffle – £6,000

In the 2018/9 academic year, we raised more from ShopSmart and over £30,000 from our major events so the pandemic has definitely had an impact on our fundraising.

2020/2021 Fundraising Focus

Changing rooms2

This year our fundraising focus and events schedule has had to change due to the pandemic, but we are no less committed to doing all we can to engage the entire school community in both social and fundraising activities!

Following discussions with pupil representatives from all age groups, the school leadership team has agreed the funding priority is to provide improved outdoor seating areas, picnic tables, weather covered spaces and a new exterior café to enhance pupils’ break and lunch time experience during Covid-19. In addition, we’d like to contribute some funds to improve the staff room which is cramped and tired to show our appreciation for our dedicated CGS teachers.

Please visit our fundraising pages to learn how you can get involved.

We look forward to virtual-socialising, fundraising and enriching our children’s grammar school life in partnership with you over the years ahead.
