Head's Blog

Dear Parent,

We are just finalising the total raised for Liberty's Legacy which is just short of £4,000 which is fantastic.  The ParentPay option will close on Monday following which we will be able to reach a definitive total but I wanted to pass on my thanks for your support.  Thank you also to Mrs Rees who organised our Macmillan Coffee Morning last week, raising around £75.

It was a pleasure to see so many parents at our GCSE certificate presentation on Wednesday and to be able to formally recognise the achievements of the students.  It was also good to see so many Year 8 parents at our Information Evening last night and I hope you found it useful if you attended.  Tonight, many students in Years 7 and 8 will be back at school for the disco being organised by the Friends of Chesham Grammar School.  Many thanks to the FOCGS for organising this event which I know is always a huge success and one the students thoroughly enjoy.

This morning, Year 11 students started the formal process of choosing their post 16 options and my thanks to those staff who organised and were involved in our Post 16 Morning.  If you have a child in Year 11, please do ask him or her about it and make a note in your diary of the date of our own Sixth Form Open Evening when students and parents will be able to talk to subject staff and current students which should help them as they try to narrow down their options choices.  This will take place on Thursday, November 1st.

Our educational visits programme is well underway for this year.  This week, Year 13 students of geography have undertaken coasts fieldwork at Walton on the Naze in Essex while Year 12 art and photography students visited Brighton yesterday.  Next week many of those studying GCSE or A level French will be in Montpellier, spending time with host families.  All of these visits really enhance the experiences of the students and I would like to thank the staff who have organised and accompanied the students.

Next week, we start our programme of departmental reviews.  As part of this process, we seek the feedback of parents which is always a valuable part of the process.  Please do complete a questionnaire if you are invited to do so.  Thank you.

Can I remind parents of a couple of issues.  First, as colder weather approaches, please remember that any coat for school should be black.  Second, please remember that our Privacy Notices for parents and students can be found on the Multi Academy Trust website here:  https://www.whitehillschoolstrust.org/page/?title=Data+Protection&pid=53

Can I also make a couple of requests.  First, that parents do not use the student toilets if they are on site during the school day.  We do have a toilet for visitor use so please just ask at reception.  Second, if your child has an allergy of any sort please ensure that you have made us aware of this so that we can inform our caterers and anyone else who needs to know.  Thank you.

Happy birthday to Owen Barnes, Lucy Barber, Sam Keeble, Jack McCarthy, Bethan Thurgood, Henry Graham-Lane, Mikhail Naumovich, William St Clair Burton, Archie Pinder, Euan Pinder who celebrated their 12th birthday recently and congratulations to Grace Beckett, Oliver Burchnall, Seb Mahon, Ophelia Harriman & Charlie Mills who have recently turned 18.  It was a pleasure to meet with them all this week.

Finally, please be aware that our uniform supplier is now Hawkinsport & Son.  You can order online at: https://www.hawkinsport.co.uk/schools-colleges/chesham-grammar-school and there will be a weekly delivery to the school.

With best wishes for a relaxing weekend,
