CGS Junior Singles Table Tennis Championship 2018

"Thank you to everyone that took part in our CGS Junior Singles Table Tennis Championship on Tuesday 10th July 2018 at Chesham Grammar School. We were incredibly pleased and grateful to have entrants in school year groups 5 to 8 from Chartridge Combined School, City of London, Greenway Primary, Dr Challoner's Grammar School and of course Chesham Grammar School.

All entrants, without exception, gave it their best on the day, providing an enjoyable experience for everyone. Following two knockout rounds the number of players was reduced from 16 down to the two finalists – Saarthak Kesarwani from Dr Challoner's Grammar School and Elliot Miller representing Chesham Grammar School. The first game saw Saarthak start off with a clear victory winning 11-1. With the two players taking turns at winning games 2, 3 and 4. A nail biting 10-10 score in the 5th game ensured that most championship attendees put down their bats to match Saarthak and Elliot spin, chop, hook and smash their way through several more points. With Elliot Miller cheering a joyous ‘yes’ after an exhausting 14-12 win. Saarthak was awarded the very well deserved runner up trophy."

Head of PE at Chesham Grammar School, Steve Miles, said,' We were delighted to host this competition for the first time this year and we are hopeful that it will become a regular feature on the local Table Tennis calendar.  There is clearly a lot of local talent around and we hope to be able to continue to increase our provision for Table Tennis over the next few months and years.  I would like to thank Mr Luke Miller for all his hard work with organising the tournament and the open to all drop-in sessions he hosts on a Monday evening, which have allowed for so many local pupils and adults to pick up a Table Tennis bat and join us to play and learn.  They have been hugely successful so far, and will start again in September, with hopefully even more local people joining us to re-capture their love for the sport'.
