75TH ANNIVERSARY

I hope you and your family had a lovely Christmas and New Year. It was good to welcome the students back this week and to hear about what they got up to over the break. As always, they have thrown themselves back into their learning and into the routines of school life.
We began the week as you know with on-site lateral flow testing of students right across the school and I would like to thank you for your support with this. Thank you also to the parents who came to help us conduct the testing. It was a significant logistical undertaking and the parental volunteers helped ensure that the process ran like clockwork. Mrs Harvell once again did a superb job of organising and leading this. Students have been given another box of lateral flow tests this morning so that they can continue with twice weekly testing at home. Please can I ask that you encourage your child to get back into the routine of regular testing, preferably on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. We would like students to log all test results for the time being, both with the school and on the .gov.uk site please. An email reminder will continue to be sent each Sunday and Wednesday. Again, thank you for your support.
ACTIVITIES
Last night, Mrs Neagle took a group of students to see The Curious Incident of the
Dog in the Night-Time at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. This was for those studying GCSE or A level Drama and Theatre Studies. Seeing live performances is obviously an important element of their course and I know the students always enjoy these visits. Many thanks to Mrs Neagle for organising it. Sporting activities have got underway once more with basketball trials across the week as well as numerous lunchtime clubs in a range of disciplines from football to trampolining and from cross country to badminton. Mr Moore Bridger is our Extra Curricular Activities Coordinator and he has organised a celebration event taking place next week which he has called Thunder Week. Each day, years 7-9 are encouraged to visit and learn about as many lunch time activities as possible, the aim being to get them to try new clubs. As they go from room to room, they carry a card to get signed at each activity they try. The emphasis is on having fun so please do encourage your child to make the most of what is on offer across the week.
CONGRATULATIONS TO...
Well done to Matt in year 9 who won the Aylesbury Open U15
Juniors event in table tennis at the start of the holiday. A few days later, Matt also participated in the U19 event, finishing as runner-up. The U19 Shield Event was won by Sam in year 10. Congratulations to them both! Well done also to Lexie-Mae in year 7 who took her tap exam in the last week of term, passing with Distinction.
Finally, well done to Rayan in year 12 who entered a national essay competition open to those in our MedSoc. There were over 800 entries nationally and Rayan was awarded one of the runner-up prizes.
Next week, we have two National Cup fixtures in football with our U18 girls taking on Sir William Borlase's Grammar School, another of the Bucks co-ed grammar schools, while the U16 girls have a home fixture v Beaumont School from St Albans. Both teams are playing well and are a few matches away from the final. We wish them the best of luck. Click here for next week’s fixtures.
FOCGS BAG2SCHOOL COLLECTION
FOCGS are organising another Bag2School collection on Wednesday 16th February – further details to follow. Sadly, due to Covid they are having to postpone the Quiz Night.
75TH ANNIVERSARY
You may be aware that 2022 is the 75th anniversary of the school which opened in April 1947. We have a range of exciting celebratory events taking place across our anniversary year, including a summer ball. Further details and a list of dates for your diary will follow.
