Head's Blog

This week, we received the wonderful news that our Year 10 cricket team has won the U15 Bucks Schools League Cup. They have had a fantastic season, winning this and finishing as runners-up in the County Cup. Tegan in Year 7 recently became the youngest player to play in the Bucks Women's cricket team in the match against Norfolk: Bucks won by 8 wickets.  Last weekend, Euan and Archie in Year 9 took part in the 1500m of the ESAA Track and Field Championships, finishing 6th and 8th in a national field of 16. Issy in Year 10 has qualified for the British Showjumping National Championships in August, and will represent CGS with her pony, Opan. Very well done to them all and good luck, Issy.

Also well done to David in Year 10 who has passed his grade 7 violin exam with Merit and to Samuel in Year 7 who took his grade 4 violin exam this week, also passing with Merit. Matthew in Year 8 has passed his grade 2 guitar while Moukthika in Year 10 passed her grade 5 music theory with Distinction. Congratulations to all four of them. Finally, on the 'well done' front for this week, Tamsin in Year 7 won the Berkhamsted Rotary Young Photographer Competition in the intermediate age group. Her photo went on to win the District Competition in the spring and this week it has been announced that she has been awarded 1st prize in the National Competition for her photograph of an owl, entitled 'Night Watchman'. This is brilliant and we are so proud of her.

Today, we said goodbye to several members of staff. Mr Miles leaves us after 14 years at CGS, having made a huge impact on sport here. He goes on to a similar role in a Middlesex school. Mr Bowers leaves us after a couple of years in technology and Miss Farnfield and Mrs Farthing after a year in geography and history respectively. All move on to other roles in other schools. Miss Spittle has been our PE technician this year and she is off to the US. Mr Carpenter retires after several years teaching computing while Mrs Carter, who has worked in the finance team since 1998, retires and relocates to Bristol. Each of them has made a significant contribution to CGS and we thank them and wish them well in the future.

All that remains for me to say is that I hope you and your family have a good summer. The sunshine has appeared today and let's hope it lasts for some time! I will be back in touch towards the end of the holiday with details about September, once we know for sure what the operational guidance is (last year, it changed in late August).  Thank you all again for your support. Take care and stay safe.

With very best wishes,

Annmarie McNaney
