Dear parent,

Year 10 cricket team in the County Cup final

As I write this, our Year 10 cricket team is at Stowe School, playing in the final of the County Cup.  Very well done to the students who have worked hard and played well to get there.  Due to some fixtures having to be reorganised, the semi-final, in which they played Dr Challoner's Grammar School, only took place yesterday.  They won this convincingly, with almost 8 overs of 20 to spare!  Thank you to Mr Miles who has coached the team.

Year 7 and 8 inter-form rounders competition

This week, both the Year 7 and Year 8 inter-form rounders tournaments have started.  It was wonderful to see so many of our boys and girls involved, out on the field after school having fun.  The competition continues for the next few weeks.  In a normal year, we also hold inter-House winter and summer sports competitions in the autumn and summer term respectively.  The PE department is going to run both these events, which are always a healthy mix of fierce competition and fun, later this month. Many thanks to the staff involved.

CGS in the National Young Enterprise Competition final

Next week, our Young Enterprise team, Understood, is taking part in the national Young Enterprise Competition finals and we wish them all the best.  I know the students are excited about the event.  In the words of one of their Business Advisers who has supported them throughout the year, Angela Whyte, "words cannot express how delighted we are that they’ve got this far and everyone is still working very hard to ensure they will give their best next week."

Well done to...

Over the half term break, Sam in Year 8 climbed Scafell Pike to raise money for Children in Need and more specifically, for children's mental health.  Sam set himself the target of raising £250. He has smashed this and has so far raised £585.  Well done Sam!  If anyone would like to support Sam's fundraising, you can do so here: Fundraiser by Toby Friedner : Samuel's Scafell Scramble (gofundme.com)  Well done too, to Danniella in Year 10 who has recently passed her grade 6 flute exam with merit and to another Sam in Year 8 who also passed his music exam with merit, in his case in grade 3 clarinet.  Ryan in Year 10 is one of those currently playing in the County Cup final at Stowe.   He opened batting in his first match for Bucks U15 v Northants last weekend and is looking forward to the next County match, v Dorset this Sunday. Following her involvement in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals Summit earlier this year, Iqra in Year 12 has been invited to act as a Moderator in one of the sessions at the UN Leaders Summit which takes place virtually next week and also to host a Power Session there.  This event is usually held at the UN's headquarters in New York.  Finally, congratulations to Callum in Year 12 who has secured a place in the tenth cohort of the Sutton Trust's US Programme, run in partnership between the Sutton Trust and the US-UK Fulbright Commission.  The programme advises and guides students through the US application process and since it started in 2012, more than 400 students have secured places and financial assistance totalling approximately $100 million at US universities.

Thank you video

Finally, some parents have asked for the link to the 'thank you' video Mrs Ware, our Development Director, has put together for parents who donated to our CGS Outstanding Outdoors Appeal to be shared in my newsletter...so here it is!  Thank You CGS Outstanding Outdoors! | Biteable

With best wishes for a relaxing weekend,
