Head's Blog

Happy New Year!  I hope you and your family enjoyed the Christmas holiday.  It has been good to welcome everyone back to school at the start of the new term. Events are already underway, with Parents' Evening for those with a child in year 9 taking place last night. I am sure this was useful to students and parents ahead of the process of choosing GCSE options later this term. There is an Information Evening for parents about GCSE options on Thursday, February 9th when we will outline and explain the process to those with a child in year 9, so please put the date in your diary if this applies to you. Further details will follow.

CLASS OF 2021 REUNION

This afternoon, we held a reunion for our Class of 2021. When a year group leaves us at the end of year 13, we usually hold a Leavers' Assembly on their last day in school. We were unable to do so for this cohort due to Covid and an event we had planned for them last January had to be cancelled for the same reason. So today was an opportunity for us to get them back together and to fulfil the promise we made when they left that we would do something when we could to mark their departure. It was wonderful to see so many of them return and to hear about what they have been doing since leaving us. This was most definitely the highlight of the week for me!

Bag2School Collection

Please note that the next Bag2School collection organised by the Friends of CGS will take place between 8am and 9am on Thursday, February 2nd.  This is a really good opportunity for those planning a new year clear out to also raise money for the school! Thank you to the FoCGS for organising it. Details of what can be accepted can be found here: https://bag2school.com/

Charity @ CGS:  Supporting Bucks Mind

Today, a representative from our local mental health charity, Bucks Mind, came into school to receive a cheque for over £800 from our Head Students, Mollie and Rohan and to present the school with a certificate of appreciation. Rohan and Mollie are  both Mental Health Ambassadors within the school and they committed at the start of their tenure to support Bucks Mind. This money was raised by holding a social event for Sixth Form students last term which was organised by Mollie and Rohan.  Very well done to them for this.

Scholastic Book Fair

Towards the end of last term, we held a Scholastic Book Fair. This was organised by Mrs Hill, our Librarian and was a great success. It raised commission of over £200 to be spent on books for the school library. Mrs Hill would like to thank all the parents and students who supported the Fair and I would like to thank her for organising it.

Well done to .....

...Oscar in year 12 who has qualified for the 400m in the U20s National Indoor Athletics Championships. These take place in Sheffield next month and we wish him all the best.
