Boys' Transition to Summer Sports

As we make the transition from 'Winter Sports' to 'Summer Sports' after the Easter holidays,

I am writing to make you aware of some key dates which will be coming up this term, and some additional information which may be of use to you.

As you may be aware already, Easter is both the changing point for our main sport for fixtures after school (which up until now has been football, basketball and rugby for most year groups) and when some new extra curricular clubs start, as well as lesson activities changing over to new ones.  In the Summer term we will be running teams in all Year groups for tennis, cricket and athletics which we hope your son will considering trialling for.  As I hope you are well aware of, all trials (and lunchtime practices) are open to all students.

The week commencing Monday 17th April sees the start of Chesham Grammar School Cricket trials for all Year groups.  This week will also see the start of Tennis trials for each Year group.  The days and year groups are as follows:  (Please note ALL pupils are welcome to attend!)

Athletics is Buckinghamshire is run slightly differently to that of Cricket and Tennis as throughout the Summer term there will be a number of large District, County and Regional events that we will enter as a school.  For these events we will be selecting pupils to form an Athletics squad based on their abilities in a large range of events.

For Year 7 and 8 pupils we will be running an athletics trial which will be open to all to give pupils an opportunity to try out the large range of events that we enter as a school.  Further details about this internal CGS event will be sent out in due course.

PE Lessons

The week commencing Monday 17th April sees the start of new PE activities for Years 7-11.  All pupils have been informed of this already, but if you are unsure of which activity your son is due to start next, please get I touch with the PE department on 01494 781257.  As a general rule, most lesson will require 'white PE kit' as they will be mostly outdoor, summer activities.

Cricket Fixtures - Finish Times

As you be already aware, if your son plays Cricket for a club outside of school, Cricket finish times are quite difficult to predict as it totally depends on how competitive the game is and how closely matched the two teams playing are.

As such, please be aware that despite the advertised return times, which will be published on the team sheets if your son is selected for a CGS team, there may be the need for arrangements to be made if the team returns to school slightly earlier or later than expected.  In this scenario, pupils are encouraged to have a phone or a way of contacting parents to keep them informed of when they are due to return to CGS.  Pupils are welcome to bring phones with them to fixtures in order to do this, but must be sensible about their use and keep them in a safe place whilst at fixtures.

CGS Team kit -  Cricket Shirts/Jumpers

CGS have a range of 'team kit' which we encourage all pupils who represent the school to wear when representing the school in fixtures.  This includes Cricket shirts and Jumpers as well as Tennis Shirts, Rugby shorts, Athletics Vests.

Once you have more of an idea about whether your son is likely to be representing the school on a regular basis, he will be asked to ensure he has the relevant kit to wear when representing the school.  Further details will be available on the main school website under the 'sport' tab or please contact the PE Department and ask to speak to Mr Miles - 01494 781257
